In 1976 Sheikh Zayed held the inaugural World Conference on Falconry and Conservation in Abu Dhabi, which for the first time brought falconers from North America, Europe and the Far East together with those from the Arabian Peninsula. The conference gathered conservationists and falconers to discuss the future of birds of prey.
